November 11, 2006

12:15 p.m.-- Blake is now in ICU Room 77 and will likely be there several days. He is talking and, actually, is very funny! Doctors say he's still 'critical' and the next couple of days they're monitoring closely for all his organs to 'wake up and function properly'. Please send him your best wishes through this blog and we'll be updating it frequently with news of his recovery.
Praising God for his healing of our baby,
B.R., Helen, and Jeff

Blake, We are so thankful for your progress! It made our Thanksgiving day great just knowing you are so much better. When you get able to eat anything you want maybe you can have a 'belated' Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings! I am proud of your family and friends for continually offering prayers for your recovery. You are a very 'blessed' young man; I think the Lord has plans for you. Just keep getting better. Love you all. Charlie and Peggy Futch

BLAKE UPDATE SAT. 11/25/06 10:15 P.M.

DAY 27-- IN HOSPITAL
DAY 17-- TSU/ICU

Blake is still in TSU (ICU step-down unit). He showered yesterday and tonight and has been wearing his own clothes for 3 days..and, guys, he keeps that Saints cap on except to sleep!

Chances look good that he may be discharged the middle of next week but will have to return within 7 days for doctor's appointment...so, I don't know if we will be returning to Winnfield for that short a time or not.

He still is on IV antibiotics and has abdominal drain pump. Wound (incision) is still open and packed. We're told that they will make a decision Monday about whether to leave it open, etc. He does have a couple of pretty nasty bedsores which require a wound nurse.

He continues to gain strength and spent most of the day today out of the bed. The nurse allowed Blake to spend a large part of the afternoon in our hotel room with us (transported by wheelchair).

I'll post tomorrow with any further news.

Helen
P.S...B.R. returned to Winnfield today to try to focus on catching up on some work.

OOOOOHHHH, Yeah, On a lighter note I haven't forgotten, concerning a subject in one of these posts about a phone call at four in the morning. I'm the one who had to answer the call back from a very angry father and appoligize to this young lady's Dad for someone at my house waking him up at 4:00 am. Brought back the memory and I guess I'm the one who asked "WHO DUNIT". You Hoodlums!!

Blake,
We are so happy to hear you are so much better. You are a lucky young man to have so many people who love and care for you and are thinking of you and praying for your complete recovery. Your family has so much strength and courage, but most of all, faith. They put their faith in your doctors to care for you and their faith in God to heal you. We look forward to your return to Winnfield. I will make sure your Mom cooks, so start your list of foods you want. We love your family and continue to pray for your complete recovery.

Blake,

Great to see you again today. I am amazed at your progress. The best words Ive ever heard you say to me was when you said "lets take a walk." That was an awesome surprise. We love you and are still praying for your fast recovery. We are always here whenever you need anything. I am amazed at your strength and the strength of your family and Ruth. You are extremely lucky to have them by your side. Take care.

Well the day has finally come that Blake will be discharged from the hospital. It has been a long 30 days and we have seen the power of prayer. The love, support, and prayers of friends, family, churches and strangers has been the difference in Blake's life. Words and cards cannot adequately explain how much it has meant to have people call, visit, post messages, and send care packages. We might not know all of you, but God knows and hears your prayers. God has taken a trying time in our lives and revealed his majestic mercy, love, and power. Faith has brought us through and hopefully faith will carry each of you through life's ups and downs. Continue to pray for Blake as he begins his post-op therapy.

Words are not enough . . . our love and prayers are with all of you.

PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blake's recovery has made a statement with prayers being answered. Blake's recovery and the prayers that went up to help that recovery will be an inspiration for a long time to come. What a Christmas blessing the Audirsch's will have.

I walk everyday at lunch by y'alls house. Today was different. I walk on the opposite of the street from your house. All of a sudden I saw Wally run to the gate, bouncing all over and barking. It was almost like he was trying to tell me something. As soon as I got back to the office, I logged onto this blog and found out the wonderful news that Blake was being released today. Now, I know exactly what Wally was telling me -- "Blake is coming home, Blake is coming home." It's amazing that even our pets know that prayers have been answered.

If there is anything at all that we can do for you all, please let us know. We will continue to pray for all of you as you get to come home and celebrate such a wonderful miracle in the Audirsch's life.

Love ya,
Frank, Lisa, Christopher, Jonathan and Matthew Yerby

BLAKE UPDATE Thurs., 11/20/06 8:00 p.m.

We arrived in Winnfield last night (to a clean house..thank you, Linda Smith) about 11:00 p.m. It has been wonderful to be back home and Blake slept until 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.

We will be returning to N.O. in about 10 days for clinic appointment and are hoping doctors will be able to remove the feeding tube then. While we're at home, we've been told to limit Blake's exposure to others (besides the family who've been there daily) because of risk of flu, etc...which he definitely doesn't need but is highly susceptible to. I hope everyone understands.

Home Health services began today. His mid-line open incision is healing well. The feeding tube is still in place and has to be flushed daily...sooo the nurse taught me how to do it today. The 'butterfly' bedsores on his backside are beginning to show signs of healing, too. He's able to eat a very small amount of food and has tolerated liquids well. His 'nutrition level' when we return to N.O. will dictate whether he loses the feeding tube or not.

We're glad for the cold snap that moved in this evening...maybe it'll feel like Christmas after all.

Helen (Blake's Mom)
